What is RSO (Recognized Security Organization)?
RSO (Recognized Security Organization) refers to organizations authorized by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey to carry out security activities on behalf of the Ministry within the scope of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code). RSOs analyze the security needs of port facilities and ships, aiming to minimize risks and enhance security in the maritime sector.
What is the ISPS Code and Its Main Purpose?
The ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) is a regulation established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to ensure the security of ships and port facilities and to prevent terrorism and other security threats in the maritime sector. The main objectives of the ISPS Code are:
- Enhancing international cooperation and security standards,
- Conducting threat and risk assessments to ensure the protection of ships and port facilities,
- Encouraging proactive measures against terrorism and similar threats in the maritime industry.
The ISPS Code mandates coordinated security measures between port facilities and ships. Through this regulation, proactive measures are taken to ensure the safety of lives, property, and the environment, contributing to the creation of a sustainable maritime ecosystem.
